Derek Ferguson blown away by Rangers deal to sign Jefte as Ibrox icon shares what he’s heard before deadline

We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…

Derek Ferguson is excited by the prospect of new Rangers signing Jefte and shared what he has heard about the 20-year-old left-back.

Rangers Review wrote on Wednesday (31 January) that the Brazilian, currently on loan at Cypriot club APOEL from Fluminense in his homeland, is set to sign before the close of deadline day (1 February).

The Daily Record said on 28 January that Rangers will have to pay APOEL a similar amount to a previously agreed £400,000 option they have with the Brazilian club.

It means they could end up paying around £800,000 for his services, with the Record stating that they have agreed terms with the youngster on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Ferguson, speaking to Ibrox News, thinks it would represent excellent value for a player he has heard good things about.

“I think it’d be good business, you’re talking about the £400,000 and another £400,000,

I’m quite excited by that guy from what I’ve heard. He’s six foot-plus, pacy, likes to get forward, he just looks a really good athlete.

“So, the boy Jefte coming in we’re talking about, he quite excites me.

Philippe Clement has been said to be keen to bring in a new left-back throughout the window due to long-term doubts over the future of Ridvan Yilmaz.

Borna Barisic is also out of contract at the end of the season, so reinforcement in the position would certainly not go amiss before the close of play on Thursday.

In other Rangers news, an update has emerged on Lawrence Shankland ahead of deadline day.
