Rangers could get Lawrence Shankland transfer answer today amid development at Hearts

Rangers could be about to discover if Lawrence Shankland is still an attainable target as Hearts have made the striker a second contract offer.

Sky Sports News reported via their transfer blog on Tuesday [30 January, 10:51] that Hearts have offered Shankland improved terms.

That comes on the back of the Scotland international rejecting the Jambos’ first contract offer earlier this month.

Should he accept the deal, Shankland would be under contract at Tynecastle until the summer of 2027 and his valuation would therefore climb.

Hearts could always still sell to a rival, of course, but Rangers would surely not entertain any thoughts of bidding in excess of £5million.

Should Shankland indicate that he has no intention of penning fresh terms with Hearts, though, then the door will remain open for Rangers.

Just how interested the club are in the 28-year-old remains to be seen, but we will surely soon get our answer.

Shankland has scored 38 goals in 59 Scottish Premiership appearances since the start of last season and would undoubtedly improve Rangers.

With the transfer window closing in just a couple of days’ time, it really is now or never if this deal is going to happen.

And should Shankland accept this new contract offer from Hearts, the decision will already have been made for the Gers.

In other Rangers news, Tom English has shared his verdict on where he expects to see Shankland come February 2.
