Rangers transfer news as Hugo Cuypers update emerges at Ibrox
Rangers love the profile of KAA Gent striker Hugo Cuypers ahead of the February 1 deadline, but he will not move to Ibrox this month, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The Belgian journalist has reported that the Ibrox club appreciates the striker, but his next destination will not be Glasgow, this month or beyond.
Cuypers has been in sensational form in all competitions this season, scoring 17 goals in 34 appearances, including 10 goals in the Europa Conference League.
He wrote on X: “Hugo Cuypers won’t join Rangers.
“The Scottish club very appreciate the profile of KAA Gent’s striker but I’m told it won’t be his next destination.”
Out of nowhere.
This is one name that has come out of the blue, with the last week of the transfer window always throwing out some surprises at Ibrox.
It does fit the profile of what Rangers want though with another new striker potentially following the likes of Mohamed Diomande, Jefte and Oscar Cortes to Govan.
Philippe Clement will know Cuypers very well from his time in Belgium, and it is the first name that we have seen that isn’t Lawrence Shankland as a potential new striker.
With Cuypers seemingly off the table though, it only enhances the links to Shankland.
This is certainly one to watch in the coming days, with this update only cementing the fact that Clement and Nils Koppen are on the lookout for another number nine.
Bring it on.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have already agreed terms on another signing before the deadline but face having to double the transfer fee.
