Rangers drop Ridvan Yilmaz asking price to £3.5m amid Galatasaray transfer interest

Rangers have dropped their asking price for Ridvan Yilmaz to £3.5m to get a deal done this month after Galatasaray’s bids were rejected according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

Speaking on “The Insider” Youtube show for Sports Digitale (30 January), the reliable Turkish journalist reports that Rangers initially wanted €6m (£5.1m) before dropping their ask to €4.5m (£3.8m) either as an obligation to buy from a loan or a straight transfer.

But while Galatasaray so far haven’t upped their offer from €3.5m (£2.9m), Sabuncuoglou reports the parties are “getting closer” and a £3.5m bid would see the transfer get completed.

Strange

This is one of the stranger transfer situations that have been ongoing all month, because Yilmaz has finally established himself as a regular in the Rangers team.

The club seem intent on letting him go and replacing him with a new left-back, but he has turned in some excellent performances in recent times and has seemingly ousted Borna Barisic as the first-choice option in the position.

With Barisic out of contract in the summer the smarter option would surely be to let him leave now and cash in while they can while replacing him.

But this situation has been ongoing all month and with Jefte close to moving to Ibrox, it seems like a matter of time before Galatasaray make a fresh offer to take the Turkey international back to his homeland and Rangers lose a top player for peanuts.

It’s one to keep an eye on in the final days of the window surely, but it’s very possible Ridvan has played his final game for the club already.
