Chris Jack shares Oscar Cortes injury update as Rangers work to finalise last-ditch January transfer
Rangers are continuing to work on a deal for Oscar Cortes and the Light Blues have dismissed suggestions of the winger having a previous knee injury, according to Chris Jack.
The Rangers Review journalist reported via X on Tuesday (30 January) that Philippe Clement’s side are continuing to attempt to finalise the 20-year-old’s switch from Lens and are not concerned by any potential fitness issues earlier in the season.
Rangers were reportedly locked in overnight talks with the French club over the winger’s loan switch as the two teams move closer to agreeing a deal to see Cortes move to Ibrox before the transfer deadline [Daily Record, 30 January].
Writing on X, Jack said: “Rangers are still working to finalise a deal for Oscar Cortes. Suggestions of a previous knee injury have been dismissed.”
No need to worry
It seems like every transfer window, a last-minute deal falls through at the final stages because a player has an injury that the buying club previously weren’t aware of, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in Cortes’ situation.
Rangers seem unfazed by the 20-year-old’s previous injury history and it seems unlikely that such an issue would put the deal in jeopardy, even if it was discovered during Cortez’s medical as the Gers look to finalise the transfer.
Clement likes to play with wingers and to do that effectively at Ibrox, the Belgian needs players who thrive in that area of the pitch. Currently, he doesn’t have many players capable of doing so, but Cortez would bring exactly that to his squad if a deal can be reached.
Hopefully, the transfer will avoid any late hiccups or last-minute injury concerns and Rangers will be able to get everything over the line before Thursday (1 February) night’s transfer deadline.
