Rangers: Heart and Hand share update on Oscar Cortes transfer latest

Rangers could finalise the loan signing of Oscar Cortes from Lens as early as Monday (29 January), according to Heart and Hand.

David Edgar posted on Twitter [28 January] that a deal for the Colombian winger is now close to completion.

Cortes was given permission by the Colombian Football Federation to leave the Under-23s camp on Sunday (28) to finalise a transfer.

Heart and Hand said: “The interest on Oscar Cortes is real. Rangers hoping to bring him in on loan in next 24-48 hours.”

Assuming there are no unexpected snags with this deal – and there is no reason to believe that will be the case – this looks another good signing.

While Cortes is not exactly a ‘name’, plenty who have knowledge of French football have talked up his talents after a short time at Lens.

The 20-year-old is a winger and that is always an area that could do with strengthening, even if Philippe Clement does already have options.

This may not be the striker many fans crave, with Lawrence Shankland still being top of those lists, but it is another attacker to call upon.

It also shows the Gers are focusing far more on recruiting younger players with potential, rather than those who have already hit their top level.

Reports suggest Rangers have an option to buy Cortes at the end of the campaign, so let’s just hope he impresses over these next four months.
