Rangers transfer news as Oscar Cortes arrives in Scotland

Lens winger Oscar Cortes has arrived in Scotland as he looks set to join Rangers in the January transfer window, according to Adriano Savalli.

The Football Sites and Mercado De Pases journalist claims that the French club have also included an option to buy in the deal.

Philippe Clement wanted a winger in the transfer window and appears to have got his man in the 20-year-old Colombia international.

Savalli wrote on Twitter: “Óscar Cortés 🇨🇴 is already in Scotland to become a new Rangers player. Lens lends it with a purchase option. He overtook it.”

Good deal

Securing Cortes on an initial loan with an option to buy represents a savvy move for Rangers.

At just 20 years old, Cortes brings youth, talent and versatility to the squad, enhancing their attacking options.

His experience in French football with Lens, coupled with his international pedigree with Colombia’s youth teams and even the national team, showcases his potential for growth and adaptation to different playing styles.

Cortes’ ability to operate on both flanks and potentially in the number 10 role provides valuable flexibility to Rangers’ attacking setup, especially with the absence of key players like Abdallah Sima and Danilo.

Furthermore, his acquisition fills a positional gap in the squad, addressing the need for depth and competition on the right wing.

The loan-to-buy structure mitigates financial risk for Rangers while allowing them to assess Cortes’ performance and integration into the team before committing to a permanent deal.

He should now be due for his medical at any time and Gers can then secure the services of their third signing after Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande.

In other Rangers news, clubs have now made contact with Gers as another first-team player appears set to be leaving the club soon.
