Rangers medical on the cards for Oscar Cortes with January deal agreed as hijack risk avoided
An apparent threat to Rangers’ move for Oscar Cortes from Sao Paulo has been dismissed as the deal is already agreed with Lens, according to Pipe Sierra.
The W Radio Colombia journalist reported via Twitter on 29 January that the winger is set to sign on an initial five-month loan with an option to buy, with the Gers medical now pending to complete the switch.
Any suggestion of a possible hijack from Brazilian side Sao Paulo has been waved off as nothing, with the transaction seemingly now the Light Blues’ to complete.
Cortes would join Fabio Silva as an attacking addition in the January transfer window, with the forward positions at Ibrox beset by long-term injuries to the likes of Danilo and Abdallah Sima.

The reports from Colombia have classified this move as virtually a done deal since it first emerged, with Scottish outlets viewing it more cautiously in the first instance.
But the 20-year-old former Millonarios attacker is now widely deemed to be Rangers-bound barring a major error being made.
Although young and short of first-team football since his move to France in the summer (four first-team appearances) it looks like Cortes is now set for a five month audition between now and 30 June to secure a permanent place at Ibrox.
If he can have anything like the impact of the last young Colombian who came to the club aged 20 then he could be a game-changer.
Notwithstanding the way Alfredo Morelos’ Gers career fizzled out before his free transfer exit in the summer he was a huge part of the 55th league win.
El Bufalo’s numbers may an overwhelming expectation to put on Cortes but with the current SPFL title race increasingly in the balance the right additions before the 1 February deadline could feasibly help land 56 with just a fraction of that contribution.
