Oscar Cortes wants to touch down in Glasgow soon after Rangers transfer news

Oscar Cortes is hoping to touch down in Glasgow this week ahead of a January transfer to Rangers, according to Football Scotland.

The website reported [29 January] that the Lens winger is hopeful of completing his loan move from Lens this week, aiming to “dot the I’s and cross the T’s” at Ibrox.

It is understood that the deal will include an option to buy at the end of his loan spell at Ibrox.

Attacking reinforcements

The 20-year-old has made just four senior appearances for Lens this season since arriving from Millonarios in June 2023. He has, however, taken limited chances in his stride, registering a goal and an assist in those games.

His impact as a substitute helped seal Ligue 1 victories over Nantes and Reims, but most of his game time has come for the club’s B team, playing 504 minutes and recording three goals and one assist.

Despite little being known about the young star, Cortes is capable of playing anywhere in the final third, in addition to his natural left-wing position. He has already deputised as an attacking midfielder and as a centre-forward this season.

With Philippe Clement’s lack of attacking reinforcements’ Cortes will be a welcomed addition at Ibrox, even despite his relative inexperience. The Colombian international will be able to learn from the likes of Rabbi Matondo, Ross McCausland, and especially Tom Lawrence, who is also capable of switching positions.

Having already been promoted through the ranks at international level, and making his debut for the Colombia national team, the hope will be that Cortes hits the ground running upon his arrival at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, John Bennett has backed up his words with “huge” money now being spent at Ibrox before the deadline.
