‘Unbelievable’ Jack Butland exit prediction at Rangers after Premier League transfer rumours

We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…

Derek Ferguson has predicted that the “absolutely magnificent” Jack Butland will be going nowhere during the January transfer window after a sublime season for Rangers so far.

The England goalkeeper arrived on a free transfer in the summer and has been arguably the biggest success story of the ill-fated summer recruitment drive overseen by former manager Michael Beale.

It was reported by The Scotsman (1 January) that Premier League clubs were keeping tabs on the shot-stopper but only a “ridiculous” offer would be considered.

Former Rangers man Ferguson – speaking exclusively to Ibrox News – stated in no uncertain terms that Butland will not be leaving the club this window.

“Listen we don’t want Jack Butland going anywhere that’s for sure, he’s been absolutely magnificent,” he said.

“We love him, we all love him and he’s been top drawer, he leads by example. I think he’s taken to the club as well, I cannot believe we got him.

“We’ve been really fortunate over the course of the last 20 to 30 years with goalkeepers and Butland’s right up there.

“I was worried when Allan McGregor was retiring, we had young Robby McCrorie in the background, his contract is running out in the summer, but we got Butland.

“We knew he was a good goalkeeper but we didn’t know how good of a goalkeeper he is. For me, he’s like a leader as well so yeah he ain’t going nowhere.”

Butland has been in supreme form for Rangers this season, managing a mightily impressive 12 clean sheets from 20 Scottish Premiership appearances.
