Rangers: Galatasaray could look elsewhere as Ridvan Yilmaz transfer talks drag on
Galatasaray have lined up a “Plan B” should talks with Rangers over a move for Ridvan Yilmaz fall through, according to Ertan Suzgun.
The Sports Digitale reporter posted on his personal Twitter account on Sunday (28 January) that discussions between both clubs are ongoing.
Rangers are said to want to sell Ridvan outright this month, or loan him with a mandatory purchase option at the end of the campaign.
However, it is claimed that the full-back is only planning to return to Turkish football until the end of the season, before looking to continue his career elsewhere.
Suzgun added: “If there is no Ridvan in Galatasaray, official contacts with a foreign player have become frequent as Plan B.”
Decision time
The future of Ridvan Yilmaz has pretty much dominated the gossip columns this month as far as Rangers are concerned.
The Turkey international has struggled to really suggest he can be the long-term replacement for Borna Barisic at left-back.
Ridvan continues to feature prominently for the Gers, but it is looking more and more likely that his future lies away from Ibrox.
The imminent arrival of Jefte from Fluminense may well help sway Ridvan’s decision as to whether he stays or goes.
However, with the transfer window closing in just a few days’ time, that decision has to be made sooner rather than later.
For this deal to work, Ridvan will have to agree to join Galatasaray on a permanent deal either now or in the summer.
If he is set on joining a different club in six months’ time, though, then Rangers will surely be out of time to find another interested club to take him on board.
In other Rangers news, a pair of BBC Sport pundits have questioned a decision made by Philippe Clement against St Mirren.
