Rangers on course to make transfer deadline day signing after what happened in last 36 hours
Rangers could now make a signing on transfer deadline day as Philippe Clement has issued comments about new deals recently.
After the 1-0 win against St Mirren on Saturday, 27 January, the Belgian claimed that Gers will be busy until the final minutes of the transfer deadline.
This could suggest that work is amplifying on bringing in more players after already roping in Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande.
Clement said: “We will be busy until the last seconds’ of transfer window.”
There have been reports linking the club with a move for Brazilian left-back Jefte and that deal could take some time and might get dragged on to deadline day.
It’s understood that there are complications in the quest to sign the 20-year-old and with Rangers, it’s always a time-consuming process.
There are also ongoing links to sign Lawrence Shankland and signing a new attacking player is a priority despite the arrival of Silva.
Danilo, Abdallah Sima and Kemar Roofe are all long-term injury absentees while Sam Lammers has left and Cyriel Dessers is yet to show he can be a reliable goal-scoring option.
Hopefully, the club have their shortlist ready and talks are advanced with multiple options as they cannot afford to put all eggs in the Shankland basket.
It’s good to see the club’s urgency to work until the last minute but that should not always be the case.
In other Rangers news, clubs have now made contact with Gers as another first-team player appears set to be leaving the club soon.
