Rangers budget update as ‘Huge’ Mohamed Diomande transfer news drops at Ibrox
Philippe Clement has agreed to spend a “huge whack” of his Rangers transfer budget on the signing of Mohamed Diomande, according to Daily Record.
The newspaper reported via its website [27 January] after the Gers signed the Nordsjaelland midfielder on an initial six-month loan before making the deal permanent in the summer for £4.3million.
Those around Ibrox have been surprised by Clement’s choice to spend the majority of his money on a midfielder, however, the Belgian sees the player as a future investment.
“An assessment is made by the whole club, what he is worth now and what he can be worth in the future,” he said.
“So it’s a longer-term investment in that way. We had a lot of good talks together and I think he’s convinced because of the club, the fans, the project and the way of working and growing as a player.”
The Michael Beale effect
Michael Beale’s spell as Rangers manager is continuing to haunt the club, having spent most of their funds in the summer, with the additions of Jose Cifuentes, Danilo, Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers.
This has meant that Clement has been limited with the number of signings he can make this January, with the intention of stamping his mark on the squad.
Especially with the number of injuries he has suffered since arriving in October, the Belgian will be desperate to deepen the experience in his squad, certainly in midfield. This makes the signing of Diomande very understandable.

It is also understandable that some are worried about the signing of a 22-year-old for over £4million, especially considering Rangers’ need for a proper talisman up front. But with Fabio Silva loaned from Wolves already, attention turned to other aspects of the pitch.
Already with over a century of appearances for Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superligaen at the age of 22, there is little doubt over Diomande’s ability. It will be interesting to see how well he fits in and performs in Scotland.
