Rangers transfer news: Jose Cifuentes travel plan emerges amid Turkey twist

Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes will jet out imminently in order to complete his move to Turkish club Rizespor, according to Rangers Review.

The media outlet reported on 27 January that he’s set to leave Ibrox in January on loan with a £2million option to buy included in the deal.

With Sam Lammers leaving to join Utrecht on loan, the Ecuador international is expected to be the second exit of the month.

Sealed?

This move appears to benefit all parties involved as Cifuentes, who has struggled to make an impact at Rangers under both Michael Beale and Philippe Clement, now has the opportunity for a fresh start at a new club.

With the arrival of Mohamed Diomande and the emergence of Dujon Sterling in midfield, Cifuentes found himself further down the pecking order at Ibrox, limiting his playing opportunities.

For Gers, accepting the bid for Cifuentes allows them to recoup some of the initial investment made in the midfielder while also freeing up space in the squad and potentially reducing the wage bill.

Additionally, the loan deal with an option to buy provides Gers with flexibility and the possibility of a future transfer fee if Cifuentes performs well at Rizespor.

Meanwhile, Rizespor secures the services of a talented midfielder who may thrive in a different environment, adding depth and quality to their squad.

Gers would rather have got the funds up front but taking him off the wage bill is certainly going to be beneficial.

In other Rangers news, a billionaire-owned club are now at the front of the queue to sign a Gers player in a deadline-busting deal this month.
