Rangers development emerges in talks to sign Jefte as ‘major problems’ assessed in Brazilian update

Rangers are now working towards a definitive agreement with Fluminese for the last-gasp transfer of Jefte, according to Globo.

The Brazilian news outlet shared (26 January) that both parties are continuing talks and are moving well towards a “definitive agreement” which has not yet been signed.

It is also believed the negotiations should take place without any major problems even though the Gers have to convince Cypriot side APOEL to break the loan agreement between themselves and Fluminese (APOEL group, 26 January).

However, the deal is expected between all parties without a hitch.

Get him in

After the addition of Mohamed Diomande, the Gers are certainly working hard to bring another player in and are now closing on another impressive smart investment.

Rangers desperately need an upgrade on both Yilmaz and Borna Barisic with the former likely to exit Ibrox before the window shuts, despite his improved display in recent weeks.

Barisic’s contract situation at Ibrox remains an ongoing uncertainty right now which means the club have to start being proactive in the window to make sure they are well-positioned should the worst happen.

However, the Gers will not be allowing both players to leave no matter what happens but still, a replacement is needed and Jefte, given his age profile and potential could well fit the bill.

Jefte may be a bit of an unknown quantity but Philippe Clement and transfer chief Nils Koppen won’t be moving for him without some due diligence.

The 20-year-old has been rather impressive at the club scoring three goals from 18 first-team games and looks to be the player Rangers need to not only address the uncertainty at left-back but build towards a sustainable future at Ibrox.

Clement Rangers

Diomande is a player of a similar profile to Jefte and just the tonic the Gers need in order to transform and refresh a squad that’s been in desperate need of it even before Michael Beale’s blitz last summer.

Get this done, quickly.
