Philippe Clement ready to sanction Rangers exit with Jefte transfer lined up at Ibrox
Philippe Clement is prepared to sanction the exit of either Borna Barisic or Ridvan Yilmaz, with Jefte set to take their place at Rangers, according to HITC.
The website reported [27 January] that, having reached an agreement with Fluminense for full-back Jefte, the Gers are expected to allow one of their two current left-backs to depart this window.
It was reported on Thursday (25 January) that Yilmaz had agreed personal terms with Galatasaray, who have been keen on a move for the Turkish full-back, with Rangers telling the club that they can rent the player and pay for him in June. [Burhan Can Terzi]
One in, one out
Understandably, the club would prefer to see one of the full-backs depart during the January transfer window, with little opportunity for all to play at Ibrox.
Considering the very strong links between Yilmaz and Galatasaray, that signing makes the most sense, rather than attempting to find a club interested in taking Barisic. However, the Turkish player is in fine form under Clement.
Yilmaz has experienced a new lease of life since Clement’s arrival in October, scoring and assisting in victories over Hibernian and Kilmarnock. It seems silly to allow him to leave, having only signed for Rangers in July 2022.

He signed on a five-year deal from Besiktas, as per BBC Sport, and certainly has a lot more to show for himself at Ibrox. However, Yilmaz is much more likely to make Rangers any money from a potential deal.
At the end of the day, one of the two will need to depart from the Scotland club this month, with Jefte’s arrival making it impossible for all of them to gain valuable minutes on the pitch.
