Rangers wrap up new Jefte signing ‘out of nowhere’ as personal terms agreed
Rangers have completed the signature of Fluminense defender Jefte “out of nowhere,” according to journalist Felipe Barros.
Barros wrote on his personal X account on Friday (26 January) about his surprise over the deal for the Brazilian left-back.
As per fellow journalist Fabrizio Romano (26 January), the player has agreed terms with the Gers over a contract until 2027.
“Out of nowhere… Jefte sold to Rangers,” Barros wrote on X, having quoted a post from Romano that noted: “Rangers have reached an agreement with Fluminense to sign 2003 born Brazilian left back Jefte.
“Deal in place, waiting for APOEL to give the green light as he’s on loan in Cyprus. Jefte also agreed on terms with Rangers, contract valid until June 2027.”
Shock signing
There really wasn’t much noise at all regarding Jefte’s switch to Ibrox, with much of the noise instead focusing on the potential exit of current left-back Ridvan Yilmaz.
The latter has strongly been linked with a move away from Scotland in the January transfer window, although perhaps that has died down somewhat after his well-taken goal in the win against Hibernian on Wednesday (24 January).
Jefte meanwhile has been busy on loan at APOEL this season, with the 20-year-old Brazilian having made 20 appearances in all competitions so far. And he has been helping out in both defence and attack, with the defender registering three goals and four assists.
It will certainly be an exciting arrival for Rangers fans, with the club clearly intent on a strong push in all competitions for the remainder of the season.
The impending signing does, however, put Yilmaz’s position at Ibrox in real jeopardy, with the Turkish international now surely very likely to leave.
