Rangers transfer twist as striker move now on cards at Ibrox
Rangers could still sign a brand new striker before the February 1st deadline, according to The 4th Official.
The reliable news outlet shared a new twist on their Patreon page (26 January) that despite the club saying in public that a new striker is unlikely this month, there is the expectation that one will be signed before the transfer deadline.
Even despite the signing of Wolves forward Fabio Silva on loan until the end of the season, manager Philippe Clement still wants to bring in a consistent goalscorer with Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland constantly linked with a move to Ibrox before the window shuts.
The Gers have already completed the signing of Mohamed Diomande, announced on Friday (26 January) and have agreed a deal for Brazilian left-back Jefte (Fabrizio Romano, 26 January) from Fluminese.
Small possibility
It is evidently clear Clement is desperate to add to his squad this month having made it clear he wants three or four signings to bolster his ranks.
The Gers have already got two in the form of Silva and Diomande but the squad still lacks that decisive bit of quality that suggests they can maybe go on and usurp Celtic, much less challenge them.
In order for that to happen, they seriously need a consistent goalscorer up front, especially now that their top-scorer Abdallah Sima is out of action for the foreseeable future.
Dessers has improved considerably but is still someway short of being that regular finisher while Silva cannot be given too many responsibilities given his lack of football.
Shankland certainly checks several boxes for Rangers given his age, experience and clinical finishing in the league and it’s going to be the last big move of his career.

Despite being a few points behind Celtic, Gers still are underdogs in the title race and by signing Shankland, they have an even better chance of winning it.
He’s that last ingredient that Clement needs to fulfil his ambitions in Glasgow but whether that move happens before the 1 February deadline remains a very minute possibility right now.
In other Rangers news, clubs have now made contact with Gers as another first-team player appears set to be leaving the club soon.
