Rangers loan-to-buy agreement now in place to sign Mohamed Diomande as multi-million terms emerge

Rangers have agreed a loan to-buy deal to sign Mohamed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland in the January transfer window, according to Farzam Abolhosseini.

The journalist, who works for Danish newspaper B.T., tweeted on Friday (26 January) that the Gers will loan the 22-year-old midfielder until the end of the season, with a £4.6million deal in place to sign him permanently in the summer.

He added in a further tweet that the deal is now “done”, making the Ivory Coast U-23 international the Light Blues’ second signing of the window.

“FC Nordsjaelland has sold midfielder star Mohamed Diomande to Rangers FC,” said Abolhosseini. “The Scottish big club has rented him out in the spring with a purchase bond for the summer of DKK 40million (£4.6million).

Makes sense

This is the first time a loan deal has been reported as the transfer was previously thought to be a permanent move immediately for Diomande.

But given that Rangers are likely a little bit short on the finances front following their summer spending spree, it makes sense to wait until the end of the season before stumping up all of the cash.

The most important thing, though, is that Philippe Clement now has another option in midfield as it’s an area where the Gers have been a little bit light this season.

The recent injury to Kieran Dowell meant that a new signing was almost certainly needed and now the Ivorian will be looking to step up and nail down a regular place in the side.

With the Light Blues hoping to be competing on three fronts in the second half of the season, the midfielder could have a huge role to play in potentially delivering more trophies at Ibrox.
