Rangers: Alan Brazil and Ray Parlour react live on talkSPORT as Steven Davis development emerges at Ibrox

Alan Brazil and Ray Parlour have reacted to the news that Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has officially announced his retirement from football.

After the Gers confirmed the news on their website on Thursday (25 January), talkSPORT host Brazil said on the show on Friday (26 January, 06:51am) that the 39-year-old had a “fantastic career”.

Parlour added that the Northern Irishman was a “good little player” and was “very consistent” as he congratulated him on making 140 caps for his country.

“I met him with Ally down at the Ryder Cup in Rome,” said Brazil.

“A good little player, very consistent as a midfielder wasn’t he,” added Parlour. “Kept it simple, put his foot in when he had to. He got quite a few caps as well.”

“He obviously had a fantastic career,” said Brazil.

“Someone has texted us in, 140 caps for Steven Davis,” added Parlour. “So, well done, fantastic.”

Incredible

It’s great to see that Davis is receiving the plaudits he deserves for his career after he’s been an incredible servant at a number of clubs and football overall.

With his tireless enthusiasm and professionalism, he’s been a great role model for the past two decades and has made the most out of his time in the game.

It’s a shame that he didn’t manage to cap off his career with one last hurrah, but he clearly thought now was the right moment after struggling through injuries in recent times.

Davis made 370 appearances across two five-season spells at Rangers.

The Northern Irishman made 359 appearances for the Gers over two spells, which has deservedly seen him named in the Hall of Fame at Ibrox.

He will be fondly remembered for the several battling displays he delivered in a Light Blues shirt after playing a key role in four of their title successes.
