Derek Ferguson moots next step for ‘desperate’ Kemar Roofe with Rangers exit inevitable

We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…

Derek Ferguson thinks a summer exit for “desperate” Rangers ace Kemar Roofe is inevitable and suggested he might want to consider moving into playing part-time football.

The luckless forward has been blighted by injuries over the past couple of years and has been sidelined since December 20th having made nine Scottish Premiership appearances this season.

With his contract at Ibrox set to expire at the end of June, it looks as though Roofe’s time with the Glasgow giants is coming to an inevitable end.

Former Rangers player Ferguson expressed sympathy for the 31-year-old and pondered that it might be time to move out of full-time football.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said “I feel for the boy because you can see he’s desperate to play but his body just can’t hold out and it’s a real, real shame.

“When Philippe Clement came in he said he would do everything in his power to try and find solutions to his injury problems but sometimes you’ve just got players like that, it’s not just Roofe you seem to have one or two others who are injury prone.

“From a personal point of view, I hate to see boys go through that because it must be tough on them not just physically but mentally, as hard as you’re trying you keep breaking down.

“But I think for all concerned it would be best if he just kind of…I don’t know, maybe part-time football would suit him.

Kemar Roofe will be one of plenty to depart Ibrox this summer

“In this day and age, it’s 24/7 being a full-time football player, the demands in training are extremely high and maybe his body just can’t hold up.

“So maybe going part-time where your body can get two or three days rest then play at the weekends or play one game a week it might suit him but it’s clear to see, and I feel sorry for him, that his body just does not hold out.”
