Behind-the-scenes insight emerges as Rangers seal Mohamed Diomande transfer
Philippe Clement has spilt the beans on how Rangers managed to secure the services of the highly-rated Mohamed Diomande in January.
Gers announced, via their official website on 26 January, that they had completed the signing of the Ivorian midfielder on a loan deal with the obligation to buy.
Clement claims that they had to beat a number of teams to sign the 22-year-old as he’s one of the top prospects in Scandinavia and that the pursuit was difficult.
He said: “He is one of the biggest prospects in Scandinavia. So there were a lot of teams interested in him.
“He is still a young player but he still has a lot of experience also. He’s played more than 100 games for Nordsjælland and they bring several good players to the rest of Europe and other top competitions.
“It’s not easy to get a player to Rangers from that team because there’s a lot of competition.”
Great deal
The 22-year-old arriving at Ibrox with an obligation to buy showcases the club’s promise to sign young talents and make them future superstars.
Diomande has demonstrated his skills in the Danish Superliga and European competitions, contributing to impressive victories.
His experience, having played over 100 games for Nordsjaelland, adds a valuable dimension to Rangers’ midfield.
The fact that Diomande chose Rangers amid competition from multiple teams emphasises the club’s stature and appeal.
In the official announcement, Nils Koppen highlighted Diomande’s athleticism, creative play and strong defensive work – all key aspects for a quality midfielder.
Hopefully, this does not end the club’s business in the January transfer window as work still needs to be done on securing a new left-back and potentially another attacker as well.
