Teammate issues verdict on Lawrence Shankland amid Rangers transfer links

Calem Nieuwenhof has issued a verdict on Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland amid transfer speculation with a move to Rangers.

The Scotland international missed his third penalty of the season recently but Nieuwenhof does not believe that it’s got anything to do with his future at Tynecastle.

Football Scotland quoted him praising the 28-year-old and backs him to come good.

“No, I don’t think so,” the Dutchman answered when asked if Shanks was distracted. “It’s just the way it goes sometimes with penalties. Would I offer to take them? No, penalties are too close for me – I prefer long-distance shots! He’s fine. I don’t think anything will take him off spot-kicks, to be honest.

He’s such a strong character. It won’t faze him at all. In the last couple of games when he missed penalties he ended up scoring anyway.

“He’s a great character and leader in this team. We know what he can do for us.”

Despite signing Fabio Silva on loan, a specialist striker is what Philippe Clement needs and Shankland is precisely the right one for that.

Rangers must priortise signing him as he represents a potential game-changer for their Scottish Premiership title charge.

The 28-year-old Hearts striker has seemingly rejected a new contract, signalling a window of opportunity for Gers to secure his services.

Shankland’s prolific goal-scoring record, leading the charts with 13 goals in 21 appearances, makes him a valuable asset.

His goal-scoring prowess, coupled with his two goals in seven caps for Scotland, underscores his potential to elevate Rangers’ offensive capabilities.

Acquiring Shankland could be a strategic move to strengthen their position against Celtic and the psychological boost of securing the sought-after striker could tip the balance in favour of Rangers in the title race.

In other Rangers news, clubs have now made contact with Gers as another first-team player appears set to be leaving the club soon.
