Rangers not in ‘comfortable position financially’ as Ridvan Yilmaz agrees Galatasaray transfer
Rangers are not in a “comfortable position financially” as they are still looking for Galatasaray to pay a transfer fee to sign Ridvan Yilmaz in the January window, according to Kadir Cetincali.
The Ajans 1905 journalist tweeted on Wednesday (24 January) that the Turkish club has reached an agreement with the 22-year-old left-back and there has been “no problem” in that regard since last week.
But he added that the Gers haven’t taken a “step back” in their demands over receiving a cash payment to allow the Turkish international to leave Ibrox this month.
Strange
It’s a strange situation that Rangers currently find themselves in after there have been various reports over the past few days suggesting Yilmaz has agreed terms with Galatasaray.
The club need to stand firm on their valuation of the defender after he has propelled himself into Philippe Clement’s first-team plans over the past few weeks.
The left-back appears to have jumped ahead of Borna Barisic in the pecking order, so it would be a blow for the Gers boss if he were to lose the player before the transfer window slams shut.
If he does want to leave Ibrox, then it makes no sense to keep a player around who isn’t completely committed to helping the club in its ambitions this season.
The Light Blues are fully in their rights to ask for a reasonable transfer fee for the Turk, though, because they will have to draft in a replacement with just days left in the window.
In other Rangers news, Fabrizio Romano has shared a transfer update as discussions are ongoing at Ibrox.
