Chris Jack shares Rangers ‘red tape’ admission as Mohamed Diomande debut verdict emerges
Chris Jack thinks that Rangers’ clash with St Mirren on Saturday 27 January will come too early for Mohamed Diomande to feature in the Gers’ midfield.
The 22-year-old midfielder is set to complete a £4.5million move to Ibrox on Thursday (25 January) and become the Light Blues’ second addition of the January transfer window after Fabio Silva arrived on loan from Wolves.
While some supporters would have hoped that Diomande would be fit and available for Saturday’s fixture, Jack thinks that the Ivorian is more likely to make his first appearance against Livingston due to some “red tape” surrounding the deal.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (25 January, 19:00) he said: “Maybe the weekend comes too early as there is still a bit of red tape as we say in the business. He’s clearly here for the long term so if he misses out on Saturday, it’s not a big deal.
“Rangers should be able to get through the weekend and with no midweek game next week, if he comes in over the next few days it gives him a proper crack at training.
“It’s actually quite a good time for him to come in and hopefully, the manager can start to bed him into the side and we’ll maybe see him next weekend.”
Not a big deal
As Jack has suggested, Diomande’s absence on Saturday shouldn’t be a big deal for Clement and his side as the Gers should have more than enough quality to claim all three points against St Mirren regardless of his availability.
With no game scheduled in midweek, the Ivorian will be able to complete a full week of training with his side before stepping onto the pitch to make his Rangers’ debut in front of a packed Ibrox crowd against Livingston.

There could be a chance that Diomande surprises us all and does manage to make the squad for Saturday’s clash, but at the moment that doesn’t seem likely to happen.
Hopefully, the deal will be completed with no late hiccups and all the red tape will be cut through as soon as possible to ensure that the 22-year-old can be seen in a Rangers shirt sooner rather than later.
