Rangers: Philippe Clement shares Abdallah Sima injury update after successful surgery

Philippe Clement has confirmed that Rangers star Abdallah Sima has undergone successful surgery on a thigh injury and will be out for two to three months.

The Senegal winger was sent home from the African Cup of Nations after suffering an injury, with the Brighton loanee expected to be out for a long while.

And ahead of the SPFL clash with Hibernian on Wednesday night (24 January), Gers boss Clement confirmed the news and revealed the forward has already had surgery and is set to miss up to three months of action.

“Yeah Abda [Sima] had his operation and the surgeon was really happy with the way it went,” he said while speaking to RangersTV.

“It was a good operation, everything went well. So he will be out for two or three months.

“So yeah, he’s positive. He’s somebody who’s always working hard and so we expect him to be back as fast as possible in a healthy way of course, and he can help at the end of the season.”

Awful

This has been a season of ridiculous injury problems for Rangers but one person who had managed to avoid the majority of the issues was Sima, and he was flying as a result of it.

Joining on loan from Brighton many people didn’t know what to expect having barely seen him play, but after a difficult start he really got going and is currently the team’s top scoring forward.

Clement worked hard to bolster the attack by bringing in Fabio Silva during the January window and allowing Sam Lammers to leave, but the loss of Danilo and now Sima means the team is incredibly light in attack again.

It’s a massive blow as he has been a consistent threat down the left wing or through the middle and could always be relied upon for a big goal, and this will no doubt effect the team’s title push.

But Clement isn’t the type of man or manager to make excuses and Rangers must now find a solution to march on without him, in the hope that once he recovers there is still something to play for and potentially celebrate at the end of the season.
