Rangers could seal healthy multi-million profit as £5m+ Ridvan Yilmaz exit news emerges at Ibrox

Rangers could well be on the verge of sealing a healthy £1million-plus profit at Ibrox with a hefty price demand made to sell Ridvan Yilmaz this month.

Turkish news journalist Kadir Cetincali reported [22 January] that the Light Blues have set a £5.5m price tag on Yilmaz’s head amid January transfer interest from Galatasaray.

The Gers have asked for a “very high” transfer fee for the full-back and want the money in the short term.

It is also reported negotiations are currently ongoing between Galatasaray and Rangers for the player, following the update that Yilmaz is their only active target this month, as per Mustafa Ozgur Sancar.

The Turkish giants cut short the loan spell of RB Leipzig defender Angelino as they go in search of another left-back option which suggests that Yilmaz is a top target and could now finally seal an exit from Ibrox.

And it seems the Gers have been smart to set his price tag at such a figure which means they could well bank a much-needed £1m+ profit on the left-back.

Rangers are asking for a significant bid for Yilmaz after signing him from Besiktas for an initial fee of £3.4million, rising to £5million with add-ons, as per BBC Sport.

Having signed a five-year deal in July 2022, it has been a disappointing Ibrox career for the 22-year-old. Despite making 30 appearances since Philippe Clement has been very open with his desire to bring in a new left-back.

Yilmaz has started a fair few games under Clement but has still come under major scrutiny for his unconvincing displays and it seems the Belgian is tired of his inconsistencies already.

£5.5m may seem such a steep price for a player who is yet to convince after just under two years at the club but it is smart and understandable given his age, potential and ceiling should he succeed in future.

Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz

The Gers are well within their right to demand such a figure especially given his contract at Ibrox doesn’t run out until 2027 [Transfermarkt].

Rangers desperately need an upgrade on both Yilmaz and Borna Barisic making a potential exit for the Turkish defender at such a figure look incredibly smart.

It’s a real shame how Yilmaz’s Ibrox career has panned out but its best all parties part ways for the time being.
