Rangers transfer news: Official approach update emerges in bid to sign Million Manhoef at Ibrox

Rangers have not made any official approaches to sign Vitesse Arnhem forward Million Manhoef this month, according to Football Scotland.

The Scottish news outlet shared (23 January) Abdallah Sima’s injury blow at Ibrox, confirmed by Philippe Clement on Tuesday, could force the Light Blues into a late move to seal a brand new attacker.

Manhoef has emerged as a top target for the Gers this month with the Scottish Sun reporting back on 29 December that the club are readying a £2.5m swoop for the Dutch youngster.

However, in a brand new update, the Gers are yet to firm up their interest in the 22-year-old winger with an official approach.

Make approach

Sima is the top scorer at Ibrox this season, with his 14 goals proving vital to Rangers’ progress both in the Scottish Premiership and in the Europa League and his long-term absence is a huge blow.

In the SPFL, the attacker has recorded nine goals and two assists from 18 games and his presence and influence in attack is sure to be missed at Ibrox, especially with Rangers struggling for a regular and consistent goalscorer.

The arrival of Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves will certainly ease the burden of the Senegalese star’s absence but it will be keenly felt and it’s why the Gers are being pushed to sign another forward.

Rabbi Matondo, Scott Wright, Ross McCausland, and Todd Cantwell are all capable of filling in but doubts persist over their influence and quality in front of goal like Sima has enjoyed.

Manhoef is an attractive proposition for the Gers, so far scoring four goals in 17 Eredivisie games for Vitesse but he cannot be relied upon to be the answer Clement needs in Sima’s absence.

Rangers

However, that shouldn’t stop the Gers trying to attract some of Europe’s most exciting hidden gems and given his £2.5m price tag, it may be well worth the club making an official approach right now.

It’s incredibly difficult to make necessary signings in January but when a burgeoning young talent like Manhoef becomes available, it would be silly not to pursue it.
