Rangers demand very high fee to sell Ridvan Yilmaz in late January transfer

Rangers have set a £5.5million price tag on Ridvan Yilmaz amid January transfer interest from Galatasaray, according to Kadir Cetincali.

The Ajans1905 journalist reported [22 January] that the Gers have asked for a “very high” transfer fee for the full-back and want the money in the short term.

It is understood that negotiations are currently ongoing between Galatasaray and Rangers for the player, following the update that Yilmaz is their only active target this month, as per Mustafa Ozgur Sancar.

Only a matter of time

Understandably, Rangers are asking for a significant bid for Yilmaz after signing him from Besiktas for an initial fee of £3.4million, rising to £5million with add-ons, as per BBC Sport.

Having signed a five-year deal in July 2022, it has been a disappointing Ibrox career for the 22-year-old. Despite making 30 appearances since Philippe Clement has been very open with his desire to bring in a new left-back.

Yilmaz and Borna Barisic just may not be good enough to match what the Belgian is expecting from his players. But £5.5million does seem too dear for a player no longer needed at Ibrox, or at least not needed once Rangers sign a replacement.

It will depend on how desperate Galatasaray are to bring in the defender, who has won six caps for Turkey at international level and has previous experience in that top tier.

Rangers may have to lower their asking price if they are to offload Yilmaz during the January transfer window, and if they can manage that soon, it would open up more fees to bring in another player.
