Ryan Jack now surely finished at Rangers as Philippe Clement closes in on another transfer at Ibrox
It’s becoming increasingly hard to see a future for Ryan Jack at Rangers under Philippe Clement with the club now closing in on the signing of Mohamed Diomande.
Danish news outlet B.T. shared on 21 January that the Gers had agreed a fee with Danish side FC Nordsjælland to seal the signature of the 22-year-old midfielder this month as Rangers close in on another transfer after Fabio Silva.
The report, written by Farzam Abolhosseini, adds that the Ivory Coast age-grade international will undergo a medical with Rangers “in the coming days” with Four Lads also sharing (21 January) that the deal could now be completed this coming week.
Rangers Review shared on 21 January that the Ivorian has left FC Nordsjaelland’s training camp and is set to “put pen to paper” on a deal to join the Light Blues, an addition which looks to have been driven by new recruitment chief Nils Koppen and Clement.
A midfielder has always been high on the list of priorities at Ibrox this January as a result of the issues they have faced with squad depth and injuries to key players, often leading to Dujon Sterling filling in outside of his usual right-back position.
One of those players who has been blighted by injuries of late is Jack who has been nowhere to be seen for the Light Blues since their 2-0 Scottish Premiership win over Livingston in November with another injury causing his current absence.
He’s been a Rangers player since the summer of 2017 but in over six years, he’s only just managed to hit 200 appearances in all competitions for the club.
Since 2017, he’s played just 10 matches after the end-of-season split and in the regular 33-game season (minus the curtailed 2019/20 season and this season), he’s averaged just 18 appearances.
What’s most frustrating about Jack’s issues is that a good number of them have been caused or made worse on international duty with Scotland.
As per the Scottish Sun on 27 November, there are going to be talks about whether he’ll ever play for Scotland again but this should have been something that was decided a long time ago because his continual, pointless appearances for his country have left him potentially at the end of his Rangers career.
With the stunning addition of Diomande, Clement could now see his midfield weaponry reasonably stocked with Nicolas Raskin returning from injury along with John Lundstram, Jose Cifuentes and even Dujon Sterling who’s looked brilliant when called upon to feature in the role.
Diomande’s addition certainly places Jack further down the pecking order once he returns again and with his contract at Ibrox drawing to a close this summer [Transfermarkt], there is surely no way back for him in Clement’s plans again.

The big-name 31-year-old has been a fabulous servant at the club but it’s coming to a time when both parties will need to move on from each other, and that will certainly come even before the summer transfer window opens.
