Mohamed Diomande makes late-night plans to finalise new Rangers transfer

FC Nordsjaelland ace Mohamed Diomande was making plans late on Saturday (20 January) to fly out of the United States to finalise his move to Rangers, according to The Scottish Sun.

The publication shared an update on the timeline of events behind the scenes on its online edition on Sunday (21 January), with Diomande being given permission to leave his side’s training camp Stateside.

Danish outlet B.T. first reported on Sunday (21 January) that a fee had been agreed between Rangers and Nordsjaelland for the Ivorian midfielder, who has been described as “incredible” by UEFA-licenced coach John Walker.

The Scottish Sun’s report read: “It’s understood the 22 year-old was last night making plans to leave his club’s winter training camp in the USA to rubber-stamp his move.

“Barring any issues with his medical it’s anticipated the attacking midfielder could be a Gers player within days.”

Shrewd business

This signing has come pretty much out of the blue, but the general consensus is that it is a very shrewd piece of business from the Gers’ perspective.

While we cannot pretend to be experts on all things Danish football, those who have watched Diomande up close say he is an adaptable central midfielder who can do a bit of everything.

He has the ability to break up play and also contribute to goals, whether that is by finding the net himself or laying on assists for his team-mates.

Should this signing be finalised, which is looking increasingly likely to be the case, then Philippe Clement would have added a new central midfielder and a new attacker to his squad in Fabio Silva.

A left-back will be needed at some point, but the priority in the final week-and-a-half of the window must now be an out-and-out striker.

Manage that, and this would have been a superb window for the Light Blues.
