Rangers transfer news as ‘intense pressure’ update emerges in Galatasaray January pursuit of Ridvan Yilmaz
Galatasaray are not applying “intense pressure” to get a real for Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz over the line during the January transfer window, according to Nevzat Dindar.
The journalist, who has over 280,000 followers on X reported, on Monday (22 January) that the European giants are not pushing hard to sign the 22-year-old this month, despite consistent suggestions that he remains a defensive target during the January window.
Yilmaz was a consistent member of Philippe Clement’s squad prior to the winter break but has repeatedly been linked with a move away from Ibrox, with reports suggesting Galatasaray have only made a single bid for the Turkish defender [Mustafa Ozgur Sancar, 22 January].
Discussing the potential move, Dindar said: “Galatasaray does not apply intense pressure and pressure for Rıdvan Yılmaz. If I ask me, I prefer Levent.”
No intense pressure
It feels as though this deal could already be fizzling out, as there is no particular desire on Rangers’ part to sell Yilmaz this month and it now doesn’t appear as though Galatasaray are particularly keen to push for the left-back’s signature.
Rangers’ only options on the left side of defence currently are the Turkish international and Borna Barisic and with the Croatian’s contract set to come to an end at the end of the season, the Light Blues won’t want to lose both players so close to one another.
However, with just over a week remaining in the transfer window, there is plenty of time for all of this to change and as deadline day nears, Galatasaray could well start to apply that pressure on Rangers and foot the bill to sign Yilmaz.
This is a deal to definitely watch until the final minutes of the window as it seems as though one side is going to have to break their resolve for a deal to be reached before the end of the month.
In other Rangers news, David Edgar has admitted that he thinks there could be more than one new arrival before the end of January
