Joshua Barrie shares if Rangers star Abdallah Sima will return to Brighton after injury blow

Joshua Barrie has insisted Abdallah Sima will remain at Rangers while he recovers from his latest injury blow, amid suggestions he could return to recover at Brighton.

Sima suffered a new injury blow to his hip while on international duty with Senegal, with reports suggesting he could miss a long period in his recovery from the issue.

It had been questioned whether the Ibrox loanee would go back to his parent club to use their facilities to recover, but Barrie has squashed those reports, suggesting the medical staff at Rangers will know him better.

Speaking live on The Rangers Review [22 January], Barrie shared: “He’ll be at Rangers, Derek because he’s worked with Rangers’ medical staff this whole season. They’ll know all his data for the season, they’ll know how he’s been training. Sima’s not worked with Brighton much at all, he’s been on loan last season as well as the season before.

“It makes sense they [Rangers] get him back to the club so he can get the best treatment that is going to help him because that’s where he’s been for the majority of the season. We just have to hope it’s not as bad as first feared.”

Rangers will be best for his recovery

As Barrie reports, the Rangers medical staff have worked with Sima all season. They will have an understanding of the way his body works, what he has been doing in training, and the best path for his recovery based on those factors, so it makes sense for him to stay in Glasgow.

Having picked up the issue while away at AFCON with Senegal, it will be important to assess the extent of the damage and therefore what will be required for his recovery, with an update likely to emerge in the coming days.

Rangers

This news has come as a big blow to Rangers, with Sima one of their outstanding performers so far this season, and the club’s top goalscorer. He will be sorely missed by Philippe Clement, and everyone at Ibrox will have their fingers crossed he can recover quickly.

His return could be imperative to their ongoing title fight, and if he can return as soon as possible, he may still be able to have a say on where the SPFL title ends up come the end of the year.
