Galatasaray transfer update as Ridvan Yilmaz bid news emerges from Rangers

Galatasaray have only made one bid in the January transfer window and that is for Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz, according to Mustafa Ozgur Sancar.

The AS journalist has reported [22 January] how Galatasaray’s plans will be decisive in the race to seal the Turkish League title at the end of the season.

Yilmaz developed interest from clubs in Europe, with Galatasaray said to be pushing for a deal for the 22-year-old, after just one season in Scotland.

Replacements needed

If the news is true, and Galatasaray have named Yilmaz as their primary target, Clement will be even more desperate to bring in a new defender before the January transfer window closes.

Yilmaz has started just nine of Rangers’ 20 league matches so far this season. However, it was still a surprise when Clement opened up about his desire to potentially replace his left-back duo during the January window.

The 20-year-old seemed to be trusted, starting in the Old Firm derby against Celtic in a run of four consecutive starts in the side.

While Borna Barisic is injured at this moment, there have been no solid links to a move away for the Croatian defender. Clement will no doubt be extremely unhappy if he is left with just Barisic for the second half of the season.

The Gers have already missed out on the signing of David Jurasek from Benfica, having been too slow in making a bid for the player. But with under two weeks until the transfer window closes, the opportunity for Rangers to do business is getting smaller and smaller.

With eight points separating Rangers and Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, and the aim of European success with the Europa League, Rangers are in need of squad additions with a boat-load of fixtures still to come.
