UEFA coach ‘stunned’ by Rangers transfer news as Mohamed Diomande closes in on Ibrox move

UEFA-licensed coach John Walker is “stunned” that Rangers have been linked with a move for FC Nordsjaelland midfielder Mohamed Diomande.

Danish outlet B.T. reported on Sunday (21 January) that the Ivory Coast Under-23s international is to undergo an Ibrox medical next week.

Rangers fan Walker, who has worked for Patrick Thistle among others, believes it would be a huge coup for the Gers if they can pull it off.

Walker posted on his personal Twitter page [21 January]: “Had said in December, [Ibrahim] Osman, [Adam] Nagalo & Diomande were players I’d expect to make BIG moves like [Mohammed] Kudus (West Ham).

“Stunned to see links with us from a reliable source & he would be an incredible get!!!

“He would be an incredible get & one which would fit the Club Transfer Model.”

Exciting move

While not a massive amount is known about Diomande, this is exactly the type of deal the Gers should be targeting more often.

The Scandinavian market is full of untapped potential and often for a low price – relatively speaking – that can make for a nice little bargain.

Diomande is now aged 22, which is not exactly young in the current game, so he will expect to start more matches than not.

As a player capable of playing as a number six or a number eight, Philippe Clement can take full advantage of his versatility.

Diomande boasts an 88.7-per-cent pass-success accuracy across 13 games this season and has contributed to three assists.

He is also strong in terms of the defensive aspects of the game, such as tackling, so he seems like an all-round midfielder.

Assuming this deal gets over the line with no hitches, as expected, it will be great to see Diomande’s qualities up close on a regular basis.
