Rangers set to seal second January transfer window signing as Mohamed Diomande leaves training camp to sign deal – Chris Jack

Rangers are about to make their second signing of the January transfer window in the form of Mohamed Diomande, according to Chris Jack.

The journalist reports for Rangers Review on 21 January that the Ivorian has left FC Nordsjaelland’s training camp and is set to “put pen to paper” on a deal to join the Light Blues.

The midfielder has established himself as “one of the most promising players in the division” in Denmark and the 22-year-old is now “closing in” on an Ibrox switch.

He will join Wolves loanee Fabio Silva as additions to Philippe Clement’s squad so far since the winter window opened.

On the way in

With the Rangers squad permanently beset by injuries it is becoming almost as important to bring players in this month just to maintain the numbers as it is for the manager to actually strengthen.

It has been a wait of close to three weeks since the early capture of Silva and the focus has primarily been on left-back movements and the much-needed central striker.

But Diomande has clearly been on a sharp upward trajectory in recent years so this move has the potential to work out as quite a coup for Clement.

Rangers

The 22-year-old has already made well over 100 appearances for Nordsjaelland, scoring 13 goals and adding 14 assists, having come through the ranks at the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana.

With Ryan Jack and Jose Cifuentes regular absentees this season and John Lundstram’s contract set to expire, pending discussions over a new deal, there are gaps in the midfield.

And with Abdallah Sima the latest to be struck down by injury while away on international duty with Senegal it may be that Diomande’s ability to play on the left is also needed.
