Rangers ‘disaster’ waiting to land on Philippe Clement as reality hits at Ibrox – Gary Keown
Constant “disaster” is waiting to land on Rangers manager Philippe Clement at Ibrox, according to journalist Gary Keown.
The latest involves five players potentially leaving Ibrox for free at the end of the season upon the expiry of their contracts.
As per Keown, Clement called the situation “crazy,” with Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos having both left that way six months ago.
“With every passing week, Philippe Clement gives off the air of a bloke realising that his new dream home has dodgy foundations, skeletons in the closet and a nasty case of knotweed in the back garden,” Keown wrote for The Scottish Mail on Sunday (pages 94/95, 21 January).
“That strange, underutilised cryochamber he clocked shortly after getting the keys seems the least of his problems now. Every time he turns a corner at Rangers, opens a cupboard, there’s another costly disaster waiting to land on his head, another reason to wonder what on earth the people who constructed this whole mess were up to. If he had any hair left, he would be pulling it out.”
Nightmare
It certainly is a nightmare scenario that Clement finds himself in regarding the potential exits of five players for free. But it is certainly not his fault, with the Scottish giants clearly not learning their lessons from the end of last season.
At the end of the previous campaign, star duo Kent and Morelos left Ibrox at the end of their contracts, with Rangers potentially missing out on a huge windfall by not selling the players.
That was a mistake, but it now looks like a similar scenario could play out this summer, with Rangers in danger of losing five players for nothing.
Clement has done a superb job at Ibrox so far, with the club lifting the League Cup trophy and progressing in Europe under his guidance.
They are also keeping tabs on fierce rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and are into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

But the man in the dugout cannot do it alone, and he needs help from the powers that be, who must avoid previous errors if the club are to be successful.
