Nico Raskin makes ‘worst’ Rangers admission following Scottish Cup win vs Dumbarton

Nico Raskin says the conditions Rangers played in against Dumbarton were “the worst” he has experienced in his career.

The Gers saw off the fourth-tier side 4-1 in West Dunbartonshire on Saturday (20 January) to advance to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

The game was played amid heavy rain and wind, leading to fears that the game may not go ahead due to the threat of a waterlogged pitch.

Speaking after the match, as per the Glasgow Times, Raskin said: “We enjoyed it. Winning games is always enjoyable.

“Winning as a team is always enjoyable. As a young boy, I played loads of those games so you can always enjoy them.

“But altogether they were the worst conditions I had played in, yeah.”

Bring on Hibs

The trip to Dumbarton following a couple of weeks off made for a potential banana skin fixture as far as Rangers were concerned.

However, John Lundstram and Cyriel Dessers put the Gers on their way with first-half goals, before James Tavernier and Scott Wright netted either side of a Matthew Shiels consolation header.

After spending time training in La Manga, it is fair to say the conditions were slightly different for this showdown with Dumbarton.

Rangers

Full credit to the players, though, because they got the job done against determined opponents in a stress-free manner.

With a couple of friendlies played and this early-round cup trip out of the way with, Philippe Clement’s focus can now turn to a big clash with Hibernian in midweek.

The stormy conditions in Scotland are set to continue, but let’s just hope it does not lead to the postponement of another Scottish Premiership game.
