Sky Sports pundit predicts Rangers v Dumbarton and Celtic v Buckie Thistle results

Kris Boyd has predicted the results of Rangers v Dumbarton and Celtic v Buckie Thistle and Scottish football resumes via the cup.

The Sky Sports pundit told the Scottish Sun (19 January) that while he does see certain upsets happening, he expects the two Old Firm sides to cruise through to the next round.

He said that Philippe Clement has tasted silverware once as Rangers manager and would be looking to do it again in the Scottish Cup.

Boyd said: “Do I see any shocks? Possibly, but I fully expect the majority of the nine Premiership teams facing lower-league opposition to deal with them.

“Celtic’s clash with Buckie Thistle is fantastic for the Highland League team, with the tie covered brilliantly in these SunSport pages for the last couple of weeks.

“Graeme Stewart’s side couldn’t have dreamed of a bigger build-up. But it’s their cup final to face Brendan Rodgers’ side and there is zero chance of an upset.

“Rangers at Dumbarton should also be straightforward. Philippe Clement has tasted one final already this season and lifted a trophy, it’s fair to say he’ll be looking to do the same again.”

Get the job done

Rangers should not encounter significant challenges in their upcoming match against Dumbarton, especially based on their historical head-to-head record, they have emerged victorious in all nine previous encounters with Dumbarton.

The significant gap in performance between the two teams is evident, reinforcing the expectation of a favourable outcome for the visitors.

Moreover, Dumbarton’s recent form and performance statistics do not bode well for them.

The hosts have struggled, with six of their last seven games witnessing goals at both ends, indicating defensive vulnerabilities.

In contrast, Rangers have been in excellent form, winning eight of their last nine games across all competitions.

Rangers

Considering Rangers’ recent triumph in the Scottish League Cup final and their potential for more silverware, they are likely to approach this match with a strong and determined mindset.

While there might be a temptation to rest key players, it is crucial for Rangers to avoid complacency and Philippe Clement will also keep tabs on the attitude of certain players linked with the exit door.
