Rangers transfer news as fresh twist emerges in Lawrence Shankland Hearts contract talks amid January links

Hearts’ new contract offer will not be enough to persuade Lawrence Shankland to extend his stay at Tynecastle amid links with a January transfer to Rangers, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported on its website on Friday (20 January) that the new contract offered to the 28-year-old includes a minimal wage increase, despite his excellent form at the start of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Shankland is ready to turn down this latest offer and should Hearts want to tie their in-demand skipper down to new terms, they will have to “up the ante” and increase their wage offer to try and convince the Scottish international to sign on the dotted line.

So far Hearts have insisted that they have received no bids for the 28-year-old this month, but Shankland has been repeatedly linked with a January move to Ibrox as Philippe Clement looks to address the lack of firepower in his side.

Get it done

It is becoming incredibly clear that Shankland wants a move to Rangers this month. It has previously been suggested that the 28-year-old is keen on making the switch to Ibrox and his latest actions would suggest that remains the case.

Rangers financially should be able to blow Hearts out of the water, especially when it comes to wage demands so the Light Blues should be able to quite easily match the offer made to Shankland and likely even better it by some way.

Rangers

If the Gers decide to match Hearts’ asking price, which will likely be lower should the Scottish international be in the final stages of his contract, they should have absolutely no issue negotiating personal terms with their new frontman.

Hopefully, this latest news is enough to kick the Gers’ recruitment team into action and they could finally move a step closer to bringing in a much-needed new number nine this January.
