Rangers talents set for opportunity v Dumbarton in early team news – Derek Ferguson

We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…

Derek Ferguson has admitted he would like to see some younger players get a chance for Rangers in their Scottish Cup clash with Dumbarton on Saturday 20 January.

The former Scotland international singled out Ross McCausland as one player who has shown the way, with Bailey Rice and Cole McKinnon also mentioned.

Ferguson did admit that the question will arise if they can handle it or not, with the Dumbarton surface set to cause some issues if the game goes ahead.

“Of course, McCausland has shown the way coming into the side,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“Maybe he got a little lucky, a little bit of fortune in getting into the Rangers side but he has taken his chance. You’ve got Bailey Rice, you’ve got the boy McKinnon as well, and I think they should be figuring because we’ve still got one or two injury worries, one or two of the guys have just come back in terms of Lawrence and Jack, do you want to want to be playing on a surface if it does go ahead that may be muddy, slippery?

It’s not the conditions that the players will be used to, but again, shouldn’t be moaning about it, it’s a cup game, a team in the lower divisions so the ground isn’t going to be the greatest.

Maybe it is an opportunity to bring in some of the younger players and give them that chance. McCausland has taken it ever so well and the guys that are at Rangers, these young lads are there for a reason and they’re all good players, but the other side is can they handle that kind of mentality going in with the bigger boys? Can they handle the situation?

I would like to see that and I think it should happen because I think whatever team Rangers want to put out, whether it’s the first team or the B team, and it’s no disrespect to Dumbarton, but Rangers should be able to take care of them.”
