Rangers: Pundit blown away by what Robby McCrorie did in 4-1 win v Dumbarton – ‘Wonderful’
Stephen Craigan was left stunned by Robby McCrorie’s “wonderful” first-half save for Rangers in their 4-1 Scottish Cup win over Dumbarton on Saturday (20 January).
Philippe Clement’s side were looking to find their form again after a two-week winter break as they took on the lower league side on Saturday afternoon at the Dumbarton Football Stadium.
It turned out to be a comfortable afternoon for the Light Blues after goals from John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier and Scott Wright but Clement had McCrorie to thank for a tremendous save from Michael Ruth’s header with the scores level at 0-0.
And Craigan speaking live on Viaplay Sports (20 January, 5:56 pm) could not believe his eyes at McCrorie’s save, saying: “Robby McCrorie, what a wonderful save at point-blank range to keep Rangers level.”
Stunning
Just how McCrorie pulled off that point-blank save at such a crucial stage of the match will be beyond many Rangers fans in what was an impressive display from the rarely-seen shot-stopper.
The Light Blues youngster has been the subject of many exit rumours these past few weeks but it seems as though Clement is adamant to keep him in the team should the worst happen to Jack Butland.
With saves like that, it’s easy to see why Clement feels the 25-year-old is the ideal understudy to Butland but with saves such as the one he performed, it’s also easy to see why McCrorie is desperate for first-team opportunities because he feels he is good enough and that save highlighted that fact.

It remains to be seen whether McCrorie will leave Ibrox by the time the transfer deadline day comes around but the goalkeeper is perfectly justified in his frustrations at the club.

He is certainly at an age and a stage of his career where he needs to be playing regularly but whether Clement will be willing to sanction such a move for him is unlikely. He certainly won’t be going out on loan either.
With saves like that, though, he won’t be short of offers if Rangers were open to letting him leave.
In other Rangers news, an Athletic journalist believes it would be “no surprise at all” if the “best finisher” a club has ends up at Ibrox.
