Rangers midfielder John Lundstram contract update emerges as Philippe Clement makes finances claim

Philippe Clement has confirmed that John Lundstram is in talks over extending his contract at Rangers but has made a financial revelation.

After the 4-1 win against Dumbarton on 20 January, the Belgian revealed that there is a financial thing between him and the club.

However, he stated that both parties have shown interest and the coming weeks and months will decide his future.

Glasgow Evening Times journalist Chris Jack wrote on Twitter: ” ‘That is a financial thing between him and the club. Both parties show interest to do that, that is clear. We will see in the next couple of weeks and months.’

“Clement has confirmed talks with Lundstram over a new Ibrox deal.”

Makes sense

Lundstram has been among the first names on the team sheet for Clement this season and it makes sense why he’ll want him to stay.

The English midfielder has made 18 league appearances already this term and last season, even though it was under a different manager, he featured on 37 occasions.

BBC pundit Stephen Craigan revealed that there are English clubs too vying for his services and that Clement will be desperate to keep him at the club.

Lundstram’s contract runs out at the end of the season and he’s undoubtedly too good a player to be leaving Ibrox on a free transfer.

While he was signed on a free, that does not mean he hasn’t improved leaps and bounds and he’s certainly at the calibre of playing in the Premier League not just because he got promoted with the team but because he’ll improve certain elevens.

As Clement says, the next few weeks and months will give a clearer picture and if there is stability behind the scenes, it can go a long way towards him making his decision.
