Rangers dealt new injury blow as Dujon Sterling absence v Dumbarton revealed
Rangers were dealt a fresh injury blow ahead of the Scottish Cup clash with Dumbarton after Dujon Sterling was ruled out, Philippe Clement has confirmed.
The defender was notably absent from the match-day squad as Gers claimed a 4-1 win on the road thanks to goals from John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier and substitute Scott Wright.
But when questioned before the game, Clement revealed the former Chelsea defender has a “small injury” that forced him to miss the game.
Blow
Another one bites the dust.
Every time Clement speaks to the press it seems like he’s announcing that another player from the first-team squad has picked up an injury and there need to be some serious questions asked.
Obviously injuries are part and parcel of the game and they’re bound to happen, but the level at which Rangers pick them up across the squad is unfathomable.
Sterling only got into the team recently because of injuries to Ridvan Yilmaz, Borna Barisic, Nicolas Raskin, Ryan Jack and John Lundstram all simultaneously, but his form was excellent and earned him the player of the month award.
But now he’s out and while the manager has described it as “not too bad”, we’ve heard that before about players who then missed several games so hopefully it’s not worse than initially thought.
Not only does the team need the bodies, he has proven that he has great quality in several positions and if he were to miss a stretch of games he would be sorely missed.
