Glen Kamara shares which Rangers player he learned the most from at Ibrox

Glen Kamara has revealed that he learned the most from Rangers midfielder Steven Davis during his time at Ibrox.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post on Thursday (18 January), the Finland international said the 39-year-old is someone who could “easily control the game” and know when to “calm it down”.

The 28-year-old midfielder added that he “learned a lot” from the Northern Ireland international before moving to Leeds United in the summer and that he’s a “great player”.

“I feel like I’ve obviously learned on the way,” said Kamara. “It’s probably a bit natural as well, but just watching other players, other midfielders along the way, I’ve watched a lot, a lot of football on my journey and I’ve learned a lot from different footballers and maybe just playing against other people as well.

“It’s not that easy to read [a game] but I’ve definitely learned from other people, not just myself. A player who comes to mind is someone who I played with – Steven Davis at Rangers.

“He’s someone who could easily control the game, read the game, know when to calm it down, know when to speed it up. I definitely learned a lot from him, great player, great guy. I learned a lot from him.”

Role model

It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear Kamara speak so highly about Steven Davis as he often comes in for praise from people who have worked alongside him.

It’s his knowledge of the game and love for the sport that has allowed him to carry on playing to the brink of his 40s, something very few players manage to achieve.

The pair played together for four years in Glasgow before former Gers boss Michael Beale decided the Finn wasn’t part of his plans over the summer and sold him to Leeds.

Davis made 370 appearances across two five-season spells at Rangers.

Given what’s happened over the past few months, it would have been interesting to see how the midfielder would have got on under Philippe Clement.

That’s something the Light Blues can’t afford to dwell on, though, as the Belgian looks to get the most out of the players he currently has at his disposal at Ibrox.
