Confirmed: Rangers star set to miss most of season with injury

Rangers will be without Danilo for the majority of the rest of the season due to injury in a major blow, Philippe Clement has confirmed.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (19 January) the boss revealed that Brazil striker Danilo is unlikely to return to action until the “last weeks of the season” following knee surgery.

Danilo was initially expected to be out for four months following his injury in December but he remains on the sidelines alongside fellow long-term absentee Kieran Dowell, but Ben Davies is edging closer to a return.

“Kieran Dowell was injured in training camp and will be out for a while,” he said.

“Danilo will be out until towards the last weeks of the season.

“Ben Davies is closest to a return of the injured players.”

Blow

Sam Lammers has been allowed to leave the club less than six months after joining following a horror spell, Kemar Roofe is about as reliable as a chocolate teapot and Danilo is now out for a long time.

It’s a horror situation for Gers because Cyriel Dessers has really struggled at times this season too and Fabio Silva has arrived at the club but is an unknown quantity at this level.

That makes it difficult to know how the team is going to be able to compete in the second half of the season considering the problems the team has had in front of goal already.

Rangers

It’s a huge blow because Danilo was quite clearly the best striker option that the team has had this season, but now Clement will need to find solutions without him.

Hopefully he will be able to recover quicker than expected to give the team a boost, but Rangers will be without a big-money signing for longer than they’ve been able to count on him at this point and that can only be a negative.
