David Edgar reacts as official Rangers announcement made ahead of Dumbarton clash

Heart & Hand founder David Edgar admits he is “not hopeful” that Saturday’s Scottish Cup clash between Rangers and Dumbarton (20 January) won’t go ahead with a pitch inspection now planned.

The club announced on their Twitter account (19 January) that there will be a 1pm pitch inspection ahead of the Scottish Cup fourth-round clash at Dumbarton Football Stadium

The Gers will communicate the outcome of the inspection as soon as possible after the inspection has taken place and Edgar has shared his doubts over whether the game will now take place.

Posting on the Heart & Hand official Twitter account (19 January), he said: “Yeah, not hopeful over this. Fingers crossed though.”

Doubtful

It’s never encouraging when such an announcement is made ahead of a game at clubs in the lower leagues and will be mightily disappointing if Rangers fans who have paid towards the game have to find that the game is postponed.

It would be a real shame if that were to happen not only for the fans but for Philippe Clement and his Rangers team as they will be looking forward to a fitness and confidence boost ahead of the Scottish Premiership return on Wednesday against Hibernian (24 January).

The winter break will have come at the right time for the club given the mounting injury list and seems to have continued given the blows that Clement has confirmed to the likes of Kieran Dowell and Ben Davies.

So maybe, a postponement against Dumbarton won’t be all bad. However, it is critical Rangers enter Wednesday’s crucial Scottish Premiership game with minutes under their legs so fingers crossed Saturday’s clash isn’t called off.

Clement Rangers

Dumbarton themselves will be hoping it goes ahead as fans will have been looking forward to a potential giant-killing, the neutrals too.

In other Rangers news, a £4.8million bid update has emerged as development occurs in Gers’ quest to seal a January signing.
