Alex Lowry set for new Rangers loan exit in January after Hearts update

Alex Lowry is likely to depart Rangers on loan again during the January transfer window after Hearts brought an end to his time at Tynecastle, according to Jonny McFarlane.

The journalist reported via the Scottish Herald on Friday (19 January) that the young midfielder’s loan spell with Hearts had been terminated, with the 20-year-old expected to return to Ibrox immediately.

However, Lowry is unlikely to be a part of Philippe Clement’s squad for the second half of the Premiership campaign and is instead expected to move away from Glasgow on another temporary deal before the end of the January transfer window.

Bit of a shame

It had seemed as though Lowry never really managed to settle well at Hearts and the 20-year-old never really managed to hold down a consistent spot in Steven Naismith’s team, so it seems natural that the Gers may look for a better loan option elsewhere.

But for whatever reason that temporary spell at Tynecastle has been brought to a premature end and Lowry will return to Rangers as they look to find him another loan spell so that he can continue his development.

The current injury crisis at Ibrox could well see Clement test him out in the Light Blues’ side as they are short of options currently, especially after Kieran Dowell picked up a new injection during the winter training camp in La Manga.

However, it seems more likely that Lowry will head elsewhere in Scotland for the remainder of the season. Hopefully, wherever he does end up, he’ll manage to kick on and really make use of that obvious potential that Rangers supporters have seen in fits and starts already.
