Rangers transfer news as Philippe Clement ‘open-minded’ about Cyriel Dessers January exit – Dean Jones
Dean Jones says that Rangers are “open-minded” about selling Cyriel Dessers during the January transfer window and such a sale could help them sign Lawrence Shankland.
The Nigerian forward has struggled to adapt to the Scottish game since arriving at Ibrox in the summer from Cremonese, scoring only nine times in 30 appearances in all competitions under Philippe Clement and Michael Beale.
Clement wants to strengthen his forward line before the end of the month Sports Lens transfer correspondent Jones suggests the Light Blues would allow Dessers to leave if the right offer arrived for him in January.

As quoted by Give Me Sport (17 January) he said: “There’s plenty of talk about the incomings, and I think that is a good thing. But I think, while it will be a busy time, they’re trying to balance this out in terms of who will be leaving the squad simultaneously.
“Let’s use Shankland as an example of a player Rangers are looking at. Undoubtedly, there is a level of interest there, and they like him. But, speaking to contacts at Rangers, they say that the problem is that players have to go out.
“Dessers is a player that they’re open-minded about whether offers come in for him. I think that will be key to those targets being landed.”
Open-minded
For one reason or another, Dessers has been unable to be the consistent source of goals that those in charge at Ibrox or Rangers supporters had expected him to be.
Too often, the Nigerian has spurned big chances often in the Light Blues’ biggest games, such as the Old Firm derby and he has cost Clement and Beale points at times this season so it is only natural the Gers are willing to let him leave.

However, no club is likely to pay anywhere near the amount that Beale did in the summer. Rangers will have to take a loss, but that may be worth doing if it helps them secure Shankland from Hearts.
Hopefully, some sort of agreement can be reached as a move away for Dessers partnered with the arrival of Shankland would almost represent the perfect transfer window for the blue side of Glasgow.
