Tom English fires back at talkSPORT pundit after Rangers and Celtic Old Firm derby comments
Tom English has fired back at Danny Murphy after what he said about Rangers and Celtic fans at Old Firm derbies live on talkSPORT.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder said that due to the lack of away fans in the stadiums, he struggles to watch the games and that he reaches for his remote whenever the games are on.
This saw the BBC journalist fire back at him as that has nothing to do with the quality of football and the fact that the two sides are arch rivals with the players also disliking each other.
English said on Twitter: “He stopped watching on TV because there was no away fans in the ground? Right y’are, Danny.”
Crazy
Reconsidering fan allocations at Old Firm derbies is essential as both sets of supporters would cherish the opportunity to sit in the away end, fostering a more vibrant atmosphere.
With increased policing, safety concerns can be addressed and it’s not like there have never been away fans at derby games worldwide.
Murphy’s critique, based on the absence of away fans, overlooks the intense on-field rivalry.

The games are played on the edge, characterised by robust tackles and a compelling spectacle with both sets of players absolutely loathing each other.
Changing allocations would enhance the overall experience, ensuring a passionate and engaging atmosphere for fans while maintaining the fervent competition between Rangers and Celtic.
However, that is unlikely to have much of an impact on fans viewing the game at home as the quality of football is not going to remarkably increase so he does not have a valid basis for his criticism.
